How would I know if the pouch is compromised?
If at the time of the pouch emptying there is no fluid being removed or if there is no resistance at the time of filling the pouch, the integrity of the pouch may be compromised. Please contact us if you have any difficulties with Vetlen Pouch.
Can I place more than one pouch? Are there any limitations?
You are able to place more than one pouch to ensure adequate exposure to the wound.
Can I place the pouch with a drain present?
Yes, you can place a pouch with a drain also present. We recommend emptying the Vetlen Pouch and the drain at the same time and re-dose the Vetlen Pouch with a fresh syringe after emptying the drain. Adjust the dosing schedule accordingly to mirror drain management.
What do I do if the port falls out of the end of the catheter?
If the Vetlen Pouch port disconnects from the catheter completely, it’s a simple replacement. Attach the Luer-Lock to the barb connector by turning firmly clockwise to ensure a tight fit. Wipe the end of the catheter with an alcohol swab and then insert the barbed end of the assembled piece firmly onto the end of the catheter, ensuring the connector is fully pushed in. You must use surgical tape to secure the Luer-Lock assembly to the catheter tube. Replace the cap on the Luer-Lock assembly. If you have additional questions, check out our How-To Videos! Additional replacement ports can be purchased at https://vetlen.com/products/vetlen-pouch. If a patient is sent home with the pouch, an extra connector/port has been placed in the At-Home Care Kit if purchased.
Who do I contact if I have issues with the product or questions on how to use it?
Why does the plunger of the syringe pop back in after I've let go when emptying the pouch?
This is totally normal. Maintaining a vacuum by continuing to pull on the plunger while you disconnect it from the port at the end of the catheter helps ensure that the spent antibiotics are removed.

If the Vetlen Pouch port disconnects from the catheter completely, it’s a simple replacement. After washing your hands thoroughly, open the package labeled Vetlen Extra Luer-Lock and keep the three pieces on the inside surface of the package to keep them clean. Attach the Luer-Lock (clear piece with blue center) to the barb connector by turning firmly clockwise to ensure a tight fit. Wipe the end of the catheter with an alcohol swab and then insert the barbed end of the assembled piece firmly onto the end of the catheter, ensuring the connector is fully pushed in.
